ALFRED, Maine - A Lebanon man indicted on 57 counts of burglary and theft earlier this month targeted seasonal homes in Acton and Shapleigh for the bulk of the damage done during his two years ransacking residences across York County.
The crimes 54-year-old John P. Daley are accused of span nearly 24 months from February 2015 to January 2017, including 18 that occurred on a single day in the town of York.
Daley, with a Lebanon PO Box listed as his only address on indictments handed down by a York County grand jury, is accused of breaking into 18 different seasonal residences in the town of York on Jan. 6.
York Police Sgt. Brian Curtin said that the residences allegedly broken into are all in one spot in town and all seasonal.
Meanwhile, the other 39 indictments occurred as a result of thefts and burglaries at seasonal homes in Acton and Shapleigh, said Corey Sweatt, a detective with the York County Sheriff's Officer.
Sweatt said earlier this week that all the residences were locked and broken into to gain access. He said much but not all of the stolen property was recovered.
All 57 counts are either Class B or C felonies, which are punishable by up to 10 years, or at least five years, respectively.
An indictment is not an indication of guilt, only that enough evidence has been gathered to warrant a trial.
