DOVER - A Rochester man has been indicted on drug possession charges in connection with his arrest during which he is alleged to have had five different illegal substances in his possession and tried to flush them down the toilet to avoid detection.

Matthew Wilson, 22, of 3 Academy St., faces a maximum 35 years in jail if convicted on all five felonies.

The charges stem from his arrest on May 19 when court papers indicate he had in his possession, Lorazepam, meth, amphetamine, Adderall and fentanyl.

Lorazepam is often used legitimately as a sedative or anti-anxiety medicine, but is widely abused, while Adderal is clinically used to combat attention deficit disorder.

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid 30 times more powerful than heroin and regarded as a major contributor to an epidemic of overdose deaths.

Court records indicate that Wilson had all the drugs in his possession and believing an investigation was beginning, "he destroyed, concealed, or removed a scheduled controlled drug by putting it in the toilet with a purpose to impair the verity of availability" in the probe.

Fines totaling more than $100,000 could also be imposed if convicted on all five counts.

The Strafford County grand jury indictments were handed down July 14 and released on Wednesday.

An indictment is not an indication of guilt, only that enough evidence has been gathered to warrant a trial.
