You might want to grab some ice melt, gas up the generator and stock some inside wood this morning as snow, freezing rain, sleet and up to half an inch of ice could be in store for the Northern Seacoast through this evening.
The fast moving storm is expected to make travel difficult due to icy roadways, especially on untreated roads. The hazardous conditions are expected to impact both morning and evening commutes. Both the Greater Rochester area and York County in Maine are in the direct path of the storm, with both areas square on the dividing line of ice to the north and rain to the south. Today's storm will begin with rain around 9 a.m., forecaster say. CMP and Eversource are both putting additional assets in place in preparation for potential power outages. As little as a quarter of an inch of ice can bring down power lines, according to a CMP statement sent out Sunday night. Another storm that arrives Thursday will usher in the New Year with more snow with blustery cold.
