DOVER - Dover Police are looking for a Dover man on the run after he allegedly brandished a handgun Monday morning during a confrontation with another individual in the area of Mineral Park Drive before fleeing police who moments later attempted a traffic stop near his residence on Durham Road.
The incident unfolded around 7:50 a.m., as Dover Police responded to the disturbance where multiple witnesses said that a male brandished a firearm during an argument with another person. Witnesses were able to provide a detailed description of the suspect's vehicle, including its license plate number.
A short time later, a plainclothes Dover Police detective operating an unmarked vehicle observed the suspect vehicle traveling on Durham Road. A traffic stop was attempted as the vehicle pulled into a residence at 102 Durham Road.
"When the detective attempted the traffic stop, the suspect pulled into his driveway, and after a brief verbal exchange ran into his house.," Dover Police Lt. Mark Nadeau said today.
Officers immediately established a perimeter around the property and identified the suspect as David Williams, 46, of 102 Durham Road.
The Strafford County Regional Tactical Operations Unit was activated, and Dover detectives obtained a search warrant for the residence. Upon entry, however, the residence was found unoccupied. A subsequent investigation determined that Williams had fled out the rear of the property and into nearby woods before the perimeter could be secured, police say.
Police searched the area, using a police canine and drones, but it was determined Williams was no longer in the immediate area.
Investigators have recovered the handgun allegedly displayed by Williams during the initial incident. His current whereabouts remain unknown. Warrants have been issued charging Williams with Criminal Threatening, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Disobeying an Officer, and Resisting Arrest.
Lt. Nadeau said a BOLO has been issued, but police don't know whether Williams is still in the area or not.
"It's possible he's fled the area or possibly reached out for someone to help him or even hopped a bus or a train," he said.
Williams is described as 6'2'' and 225 pounds.
During the incident Dover High School and Dover Middle School were put on a Secure Campus shutdown.
