Dr. John J. DiNella, 61, of Rochester, died peacefully Tuesday July 1 in his home surrounded by his family.

He was born in the Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pa., the son of John Sr. and the late Evelyn (Passini) DiNella.

His podiatry practice was in Rochester for 31 years and he was held in high regard by his colleagues and patients.

He was known for his humor and quick wit. A born entertainer who kept everyone laughing, he was a passionate man with a variety of interests including cycling, running, cross-county skiing, astronomy, reading and the arts. He was a devoted husband, father, brother and son.

Family trips to Philadelphia were always a priority and not complete without a Lee's Hoagie and soft pretzels. He especially enjoyed going to Phillies games with Paul and participating in triathlons with Oriana. Family trips to the Jersey and Maine shores were an essential part of summer.

He graduated from Boston University and Pennsylvania College of Podiatric Medicine. He was President of the NH Podiatry association, a past-member of the Rochester Rotary Club, a member of the Rochester Runners Club and Bagelry Bike Group.

He is survived by his wife Sharlene (Rucki) DiNella of 35 years, his daughter Oriana M. DiNella of NYC, his son Paul J. DiNella of Boston, his sister Denise Ragland of Little Rock, AR and many other family members, including nine nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Richard A. DiNella.
