PORTLAND - A Portland man has died in a house fire.

The blaze broke out on Sunday around 3:20 a.m. in the basement of his residence at 34 Bayview Drive in Portland prompting a response by police and fire.

Located inside was a deceased male identified as 78-year-old Lester York. The deceased was transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, where an autopsy will be performed to determine a cause of death.

The fire, located in the basement of the home, burned only contents, and did not damage the structure. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
