ROCHESTER - Harry S. Matthews, 81, of Hawk Lane died Friday June 27, 2014, at Riverside Rest Home in Dover surrounded by family and friends.

Born in Eastport, Maine, December 24, 1932, the son of George and Mattie (McPhail) Matthews, he was a graduate of Shead Memorial High School, Eastport.

He was an Air Force Veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam War having served from 1951 to 1972 and retired after 20 years of service.

After the Air Force he was a 15-year employee for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co.

Harry loved to fish and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion.

He was a member of Grace Baptist Church, East Rochester and was passionate in serving the Lord.

Harry is survived by his wife of 60-years Joan (Guptill) Matthews, a daughter Cynthia Joan Mullen and her husband Robert of Rochester, three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two sisters Amelia Franklin of Eastport, Maine and Virginia Hill of Calais, Maine and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a daughter Christine Matthews who died in 1983 and four sisters.
