DOVER - A Lebanon, Maine, woman is facing up to life imprisonment after her indictment on fentanyl trafficking charges.

According to court paperwork, Ashley Barkas, 25, with a last known address of Center Road, "did knowing possess or have under her control more than 5 grams of fentanyl" when she was arrested by police on Feb. 7 in Rochester.

Barkas, who intended to distribute the drug, according to her indictment, has been previously convicted of a similar offense.

The Strafford County grand jury indictments were handed down last Thursday and released on Wednesday.

An indictment is not an indication of guilt, rather that enough evidence has been gathered to warrant a trial.
