SOMERSWORTH - Somersworth Police Chief Dave Kretschmar on Wednesday said officials continue to try to determine the cause and manner of death of a man whose body was found floating in the Salmon Falls River on Saturday.

An initial autopsy was conducted on Sunday, but officials are still trying to uncover the specific cause, Kretschmar said, adding as he did earlier in the week that officials do not believe foul play was involved.

The man's body was found around 2:15 p.m. floating in the water near the Somersworth-Berwick Bridge.

The body was that of a white male.

Kretschmar said he could not estimate when officials and medical personnel might be able to determine the cause.

He said for now the man's identity will not be released.
