ROCHESTER - Anyone looking to get onboard with a project seeking to improve access to one of the city's greatest assets will get their chance on Saturday when the Rochester Riverwalk Committee hosts a kayak adventure along the Cocheco River.

The Lunch and Launch Fund-raiser runs from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and includes a lunch provided by Moe's Italian Sandwiches.

Folks are invited to bring their kayak or canoes to the Hillsdale Road launch area where the Riverwalk group hopes to construct a handicap-accessible launch using funds raised on Saturday.

Eventgoers can park their cars at Spaulding High, enjoy some boating time on the river and then enjoy a picnic lunch at the Dewey Street Bridge around 12:30 p.m.

Among the day's other festivities will be a Hanson Pines scavenger hunt of artwork created by Maple Street Magnet School fourth-graders and a raffle and drawing for a beginner's fishing tackle set including a spin-casting rod and reel, and a $25 gift certificate from Coyote Creek of Rochester.

The Riverwalk Committee is hoping to raise $2,000 during the fund-raiser. Tickets for the event are $20 and are available today at Revolution Taproom and Grille.

All of the proceeds from the tickets will go to funding improving the aesthetics and access to the Cocheco River.

The weather is expected to be perfect for a day on the river with mostly sunny skies and temps close to 70.
