Rochester man in Walnut St. crash dies | deal,walnut st crash

ROCHESTER - A Rochester man medflighted to a Portland hospital with serious injuries after his truck crashed on Walnut Street on Monday has died.

No other information regarding his death has been released.

Edward M. Deal, 60, was traveling westbound when he drove off one side of the road, then crossed lanes striking trees on the other side of the street.

The 2005 Ford Ranger erupted into flames after the crash and a Good Samaritan stopped to help put the fire out with a fire extinguisher.

Police and firefighters assisted in extinguishing the blaze after which Fire Department personnel used an extraction tool to free Deal from the wreckage.

The accident in the area of 239 Walnut St. occurred around 1:20 p.m. and closed the road into the evening while responders cleared the scene and an accident reconstruction team investigated the crash.

Police said alcohol did not appear to be a factor.
