ALFRED, Maine - A Rochester man driving drunk who led Kittery Police on a chase into Portsmouth that ended when his vehicle crashed on the Exit 7 off ramp has been indicted by a York County grand jury on charges in connection with the incident.

Jonathan Hopkins, 23, of 35B Leonard St., was charged with felony eluding police. In addition he faces felony reckless conduct and aggravated DWI charges in New Hampshire.

Police say Hopkins drove through the Kittery Memorial Traffic circle instead of around it about 1:30 a.m. on June 2, prompting a Kittery officer to give chase.

Hopkins then traveled north on Route 236, got on I-95 south and exited at Exit 7 in Portsmouth where he crashed on the off-ramp.

The York County grand jury indictments were handed down Tuesday and released to the public on Thursday.

An indictment is not an indication of guilt, only that a grand jury has found sufficient evidence to move forward to trial.
