ROCHESTER - On Friday, November 7th, Rochester Middle School held its annual Veterans Assembly to honor and celebrate the service of military veterans both in the local community and around the world. The event brought together students, faculty, and distinguished speakers to express appreciation for the sacrifices made by those who have served in the armed forces.
The assembly featured musical performances by the school's chorus and band, which set the tone for the day's heartfelt tributes. Among the honored speakers were Superintendent Jared Fulgoni and Lieutenant Paul Lewis, who shared their insights and experiences on the importance of Veterans Day. A particularly moving part of the ceremony was the personal story shared by student MCs, Dakota and Olivia Opp, who spoke about their father's service in the military, giving the audience a touching glimpse into the sacrifices and challenges faced by military families. "It was an honor to hear Dakota and Olivia share their story," said Principal Lyndsey DeTroia of Rochester Middle School. "Their courage and connection to their father's service was inspiring, and it reminded us all that Veterans Day is not just about honoring strangers, but about recognizing the veterans within our own families and communities." Principal DeTroia also extended her gratitude to staff members Kayla Wark and Meghan Woodman for their dedication and leadership in organizing the annual event. "The amount of work that goes into planning this assembly is astounding," said DeTroia. "Ms. Wark and Ms. Woodman put their hearts into creating a meaningful experience for our students and guests each year, and we are so grateful for their commitment." The students of Rochester Middle School were deeply engaged throughout the ceremony, demonstrating their respect and gratitude for the sacrifices of our veterans. The event concluded with a standing ovation for all veterans in attendance, a fitting tribute to their service. "The students truly made us proud," added DeTroia. "Their appreciation and respect were evident throughout the program, and it's moments like these that remind us how important it is to teach gratitude, empathy, and civic responsibility." The event was a moving reminder of the significance of Veterans Day and the community's commitment to remembering and supporting those who have dedicated their lives to protecting our freedom.
