Rochester's property tax rate spikes almost five percent

ROCHESTER - Next year's mil rate was recently set at $27.52, up $1.19 from this year's $26.33. The rate reflects an increase of 4.5 percent. That means the annual tax bill for a city home assessed at 200,000 will pay about $240 over last year. The breakdown reflects the following components. City: $9.12, Local education: $13.39, State education: $2.25 and County: $2.76. Property tax bills will be mailed on Dec. 12 and are due by Jan. 11.
