SAU #64 school chief takes new job

MILTON - Jay McIntire, who has led SAU #64 as its superintendent for the past three years, has accepted an offer to be the new superintendent in Brewer, Maine.

The Brewer School System has about 1,900 students and comprises a kindergarten through eighth-grade facility as well as a high school.

For McIntire, who grew up in Hampden and went to college at the University of Maine at Orono, it’s kind of like going home, he said today.

The SAU #64 school board has been in the process of selecting a new superintendent since January, added McIntire, who will finish his tenure here on June 30.

McIntire will be paid about $105,000 at his new job, about $7,000 more than he was in Milton.

He said he was happy to be going home, but would always remember fondly his time in Milton.

“It’s been an honor to serve in a town where I have a lot of history, and the team I have in place was great and the students are just wonderful,” McIntire said. “I‘ve learned a lot.”
