ROCHESTER - Rochester Police are saying speed was a factor in a crash involving a city woman seriously injured on Tuesday when her car veered off Leonard Street and struck a tree. Wendy Hatfield, 49, was Medflighted from Skyhaven Airport by a DHART helicopter to Maine Medical Center in Portland. Hatfield, who was the only occupant in the vehicle, a 2008 Chevrolet Equinox, was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, Rochester Police said. The accident occurred around 9:50 a.m. in the area of 11 Leonard Street when police say Hatfield's vehicle veered off the road and struck a tree. There was extensive front end damage to the vehicle and air bag deployment. The accident remains under investigation at this time.
