Northern Seacoast residents awoke this morning to the sound of snowplows for the first time in a couple of years as a massive winter storm expected to dump up to 18 inches barreled through the region on its way to Downeast Maine and the Canadian Maritimes.
The snow began overnight and is expected to last till around 6 p.m. today.
Winds will be out of the north-northeast with gusts up to around 20 mph. The snow coming down this morning is the light, fluffy variety and is expected to stay that way throughout the storm.
Sunny skies return on Monday with a high of 35.
Today's nor'easter will be followed on Tuesday by another quick-hitting storm forecast to dump a mixture of rain, snow and ice on the Northern Seacoast along with wind gusts up to 40-60 mph, according to Accuweather meteorologists.
The winds could lead to widespread power outages similar to the ones the region experienced on Dec. 18.
