SANBORNVILLE, N.H. - The inaugural God's Goods Treasure Sale played to an enthusiastic crowd on a perfect summer's day Saturday in Sanbornville.

Hundreds of treasure hunters poked around dozens of tables looking for that bargain of a lifetime, while kids played with and decorated Styrofoam airplanes then launched them into the air to see whose could fly the farthest.

The yardsale was held on the grounds of St. John the Baptist Church of Sanbornville and is a major fundraiser for the church.

For Cherrie Moody of East Wakefield, coming to the Calico Fair had been a long tradition, but she was very impressed with the church's first "yard sale."

"This is a very eclectic group of items for sale," she said.

For Becky Lightizer of Plaistow, coming to the yard sale was a first.

"I'm finding some good stuff," she said as she pored over one of the tables.

Pastor Sue Poulin said she was thrilled with the turnout.

Eventgoers even enjoyed entertainment with a singer/guitarist playing for church donations.

The yard sale was designed as a scaled-back version of the church's long-running Calico Fair, which has been replaced with a series of smaller, less daunting fund-raisers over the summer.

In the coming weeks the church plans at least two more fund-raisers, a charity Bingo night and a live auction of heirloom items from area estates.
