Two Sanford transients sought for questioning in arson fire

SANFORD, Maine - Two local transients are being sought for questioning in a fire that destroyed a Montreal Street home earlier this month.

The State Fire Marshal's office identified the two persons of interest as Johnathon Cox, 25, and Lonnie McMahon, 23, who both are from the area but have no permanent addresses.

The house at 26 Montreal St was destroyed in the early morning July 6 fire, which was determined to be arson.

First responders were called to the blaze at around 4:25 a.m. Sanford Fire and mutual aid from surrounding town battled the fire, which quickly spread to 24 Montreal St.

The dwelling at 26 Montreal St. is a single family home, while 24 Montreal St. is a two-unit apartment house.

All eight occupants who lived at the two residences were able to get out safely.
