ROCHESTER - A Sanford woman found out brass knuckles are illegal to possess on Tuesday after she was summonsed for bringing them inside Rochester District Court.

Police say she went through security at the courthouse around 1:50 p.m. whereupon a set of brass knuckles were found inside her purse.

Nicole E. Tufts, 32, of 123 Emery St., Apt. #C, was summonsed back to Rochester District Court for an arraignment next month.

"Brass knuckles are illegal to possess," Rochester Police Capt. Todd Pinkham said today, adding the charge is a Class B misdemeanor.

A Class B misdemeanor carries no jail time but does include a potential fine up to $1,200.
