YORK, Maine - The York County Sheriff's Office today confirmed the death of an inmate of the York County Jail.

At around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, the inmate complained of a medical issue and was transported to a local hospital.

Later he was moved to the Maine Medical Center where he died on Sunday around noon. The inmate's passing was attended by medical personnel. An autopsy is pending.

Consistent with the Sheriff's office policy and Attorney General's Office protocols, the State Police, Maine Department of Corrections and Medical Examiner were notified.

The inmate's name will not be released pending notification of next of kin.
