It has come to our attention here at The Lebanon Voice that many local newspapers are charging more than $100 to place people's obituaries in their paper.

At The Lebanon Voice, we don't do that.

It is the common belief among ethical newsmen that an obituary is a news story, therefore it should not be a paid item.

The Lebanon Voice does charge $25 for the Arrangements info, such as visiting hours, donations and burial particulars, but not for the obituary. The charge for Arrangements or as a Death Notice is a longtime practice among nearly all newspapers.

We urge our readers to consider us as an affordable option for those who live or have relatives in Rochester, Milton and Lebanon.

Obituaries are archived on The Lebanon Voice website for viewing for years to come.

We at The Lebanon Voice find it reprehensible that other papers are trying to extort money from grieving families to print a news story. What next? Will they charge for student honor rolls?

If you want your loved one's obituary to be printed in The Lebanon Voice, simply tell the funeral director or whoever is in charge of final arrangements.
