MADBURY - A Madbury mom shot and killed her husband and two young children before turning the gun on herself, an autopsy conducted on Wednesday revealed.
Emily Long, 34, shot both her son, eight-year-old Parker; and daughter, six-year-old Ryan in the head, according to Associate Chief Medical Examiner Abigail Alexander.
Alexaner also found that Ryan Long, 46, died of multiple gunshot wounds and that Emily Long died of a single gunshot wound to the head.
A third child, a toddler, was found unharmed and is now with family, officials say.
State Troopers first responded to the family's Moharimet Drive residence around 8:20 Monday morning, but the shootings likely took place around 5:30 a.m., according to Assistant Attorney General Ben Agati, who said individuals eventually called 911 after trying to contact people.
Authorities said there is no known cause that may have prompted the tragic loss of life.
A statement from the Attorney Generals Office noted that "While investigators are becoming aware of various concerns/issues ongoing in the household at the time of the event in question, people should avoid speculating that this event was caused by a single reason or stressor."
