NEW HAMPTON - A Massachusetts man was injured when the truck he was driving crashed in New Hampton.

Police responded around 4:26 a.m. on Saturday for a 2012 Hino 258/268 box truck off the road on Interstate 93 northbound, just before Exit 23 in New Hampton.

When troopers arrived they found the truck up in the trees in the median.

The preliminary investigation determined that the driver of the truck, identified as Anilton Resende Barros, 21, of Brockton, Mass., had been traveling on Interstate 93 northbound when, for reasons that remain under investigation, he failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, according to a Dept. of Safety press release.

The box truck went straight into the median, traveling over the crossover between the north and southbound lanes, struck an embankment, and launched into a grove of trees.

Barros suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

The left travel lanes of Interstate 93 northbound and southbound were closed at Exit 23 for about four hours for the cleanup of the crash.

All aspects of the crash remain under investigation. Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is asked to contact Trooper John Zavala at John.A.Zavala@dos.nh.gov
