BERLIN - The Berlin man fatally shot on Friday morning died of multiple gunshot wounds, according to the state's medical examiner.
The autopsy conducted Sunday by Dr. Jennie Duval found that the cause of Veliz' death was multiple gunshot wounds, and that the manner of his death was homicide.
According to a press release from the AG's Office, Berlin Police officers responded to multiple reports of gunshots fired at 568 Sullivan St. around 8:15 a.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered one male resident, 40-year-old Christopher Veliz, outside the building having suffered apparent gunshot wounds. Veliz was later pronounced dead at the scene.
It appears the incident started as a dispute between neighbors, police say.
Nomar Ramos-Rivera, 44, of Berlin, was taken into custody late Friday night and charged with one count of second-degree murder and two counts of reckless conduct with a deadly weapon. Ramos-Rivera is accused of recklessly causing Christopher Veliz' death by shooting him with a firearm. Ramos-Rivera is also accused of recklessly firing a firearm into a nearby vehicle with two people inside. He will be arraigned in the Coos County Superior Court.
