Berwick man hit with felonies after leading police on chase at speeds over 100 mph

SEABROOK - A Berwick, Maine, man was arrested on Wednesday after leading police on a high-speed at speeds over 100 mph.

The chase began around 4:40 a.m. when a State Trooper patrolling Interstate 95 southbound in Seabrook spotted a 2025 Volkswagen Atlas traveling at 116 mph in a 65 mph zone.

The trooper attempted a traffic stop, but after initially slowing down, the driver sped up again and exited the highway at Exit 2, according to a release sent out today. Then, at the Hampton Side Toll plaza, the driver made an abrupt U-turn, re-entered I-95 southbound, and continued until Exit 1, where the driver lost control of the Volkswagen, struck a delinieator post and stopped his vehicle after a tire went flat.

He then left the vehicle and ran into the woods near the highway, prompting aditional units as well as a K9 team.

The driver was later taken into custody after trying to run across the I-95 in the area of Exit 1.

Police arrested the driver, Romario Linton, 27, who was charged with two felony counts of reckless conduct with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor counts of disobeying an officer, resisting arrest or detention, and conduct after an accident.

After his arrest, Linton was taken to an area hospital to be evaluated for injuries resulting from the crash. Linton was then held at the Rockingham County Jail on preventive detention and is scheduled to be arraigned in Hampton District Court today.
