CANDIA - A Berwick, Maine, man was involved in a tractor trailer crash on Route 101 in Candia that is being investigted by State Police.

Police got involved around 10:20 a.m. on Saturday when they dispatched for a report of a tractor-trailer that had crossed the opposing lanes before coming to a stop off the side of the road on Route 101 westbound.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a tractor-trailer, an International Harvester driven by David Young of Sandown, had been traveling westbound when its driver observed a tow truck in the right breakdown lane and moved over to the left lane.

Behind the tractor-trailer was a pickup truck, a Ram 2500 driven by Nicholas Picard of Berwick, who was towing a landscaping trailer. According to police, he moved to the right lane to pass the tractor-trailer. As the Ram 2500 approached the tow truck, the driver veered to the left and side-swiped the tractor-trailer, which caused it to veer to the center median. The tractor-trailer then crossed the eastbound lanes of travel and came to rest on the embankment of the right-hand shoulder off the road. .

The right lane of Route 101 eastbound was closed for about 3 hours so the tractor-trailer could be removed from the scene. There were no injuries reported due to this crash.

All aspects of the crash remain under investigation. Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is asked to contact Trooper Alison J. Baumbach at 603-223-4381 or Alison.J.Baumbach@dos.nh.gov.
