LEBANON - A Barrington motorist got his car stuck in mud and water today near 88 Lord Road, about ½ mile in from Little River Road.

Lebanon Rescue Crew Chief Mike Sabine was able to use his own 4x4 truck to back close to the partially submerged car with his tailgate down so the driver was able to jump from the roof of his sedan to the truck.

The male, in his 20s, told authorities his GPS led him down the often-impassable road.

At least five vehicles have met the same fate in the past few years, said Assistant Rescue Chief Jason Cole, who stressed drivers should never seek to negotiate flooded roadways.

After the first few incidents on Lord Road, road crews put signs up on both the Little River Road and the Long Swamp Road end saying the road is not a through road. Unfortunately, the driver did not see the signs.

Cole said it appeared the car, a 2005 Pontiac Grand Am, was a total loss.

The driver of the car was en route to Portland when the incident occurred around 9 a.m.

The vehicle was removed around 10:30 a.m.
