ROCHESTER - The city's assessing department will begin its cyclical inspection process in mid-September.

The cyclical work plan, developed in-house by the department, will span a five-year period and include about 14,500 parcels citywide. Each year, the department will attempt to measure and review about 2,900 parcels, which will also include sales and permit-related inspections.

Property owners receiving postcards will have the option to schedule a specific appointment if they would like to be home during the visit. When a member of the assessing team arrives, they will:

  • Measure the exterior of buildings
  • Review the property record card for accuracy
  • Request an interior inspection (optional)

Interior inspections are not mandatory, but the goal of each visit is to collect accurate information.

This process is not intended to adjust assessed values directly; however, property record cards will be updated to reflect information collected during the inspection, according to a press release from the city on Friday.

For more information, property owners are encouraged to contact the assessing department at (603) 332-5109 or visit www.rochesternh.gov/assessing.
