City of Rochester offers residents free course on 'civics'

ROCHESTER - The City of Rochester will present a one-time course designed to empower Rochester residents and business owners with the knowledge and skills needed for active citizenship. It is called Civics 101 and will be scheduled several times over the next year.

Hosted by the Office for Public Information and Community Engagement, this interactive presentation and discussion provides tools for understanding how local government works and how individual actions can drive change.

The course outlines several topics, including "How Rochester's Municipal Government Works", "How to Find Information," "How to Vote," 'How to Make Your Voice Heard", and "How to Get More Involved."

Civics 101 is held at various times of the year in order to accommodate as many working schedules as possible. There is no cost for participation. Registration is required.

Signups are available now for the following dates/times:

  • Saturday, November 8, 2025 (9:00 am - 10:30 am)
  • Tuesday, February 10, 2026 (9:00 am - 10:30 am)
  • Tuesday, June 9, 2026 (6:00 pm - 7:30 pm)
  • Tuesday, October 6, 2026 (2:00 pm - 3:30 pm)
