DOVER - Strafford County Commissioners' Chairman George Maglaras heaped praise on the board's newest member, Leslie Feliciano, who last week won the seat originally held by Joe Pitre, who retired earlier this year.
Feliciano, a Republican, won the office on Tuesday defeating Susan Rice of Rochester 20-8 after a vote by the Strafford Delegation, which comprises state reps from across the county.
"I've known Leslie for 35 years and she's kind and a can-do person," Maglaras told The Voice on Friday. "I'm looking forward to working with her."
Feliciano said that when she learned Pitre had stepped down, right away she began thinking about seeking the vacant seat.
"As soon as I heard, the thought of running piqued my interest," she said. "Rochester is where I have lived 85 percent of my life. I grew up in Farmington and graduated from Farmington High, then I moved to Rochester where I raised two sons who both graduated from Spaulding High School.
Feliciano said once she's sworn in her biggest priority will be "getting the parties to work together to build a new county nursing home."
She is expected to be sworn in on Thursday at 8:45 a.m. at Strafford County Courthouse.
The Strafford County Commissioners is made up of its chair, Maglaras, a Democrat; and Republicans Sean Leavitt and Feliciano.
