Crowning achievement: Rochester Fair Beauty Pageant winners named

ROCHESTER - Saturday's cold temps and drizzle put a damper on outdoor fair activities but heated up the crowds in the Exhibition Hall where the highlight was the running of the Second Annual Miss Rochester Fair Pageant.

Vendors saw increased traffic in the dry and slightly warmer confines of the historic hall, but no space was more tightly packed than the east end of the hall where a contingent of sweet 16 contestants vied for the coveted titles of Little Miss Rochester Fair, Jr. Miss Rochester Fair and Teen Miss Rochester Fair.

After a rigorous afternoon of talent and personality judging, the winners were announced before parents, grandparents and friends all breathlessly awaiting the results.

Taking the top spot in the Little Miss Rochester Fair was seven-year-old Allyson Mckenna of Wakefield, while the Junior Miss Rochester Fair was won by Marissa Young and Abby Sullivan took the Miss Teen title.

Conferring the honors to the winners was Adrienne Hebert of Rochester, the reigning Miss New Hampshire Ambassador Teen as well as last year's pageant winners: 8-year-old Savannah Edgerly-Hurley of Rochester, Lindsey Lauze, 11, of Farmington and Skylar Ryan, 16, of Rochester.

While daytime crowds were down overall with the cool drizzle, nighttime crowds blossomed for the annual school bus demo derby.

Today's crowds are expected to be the best thus far with high temps in the mid-70s under sunny skies. Gates open at 10 a.m., and the midway opens at noon.
