Drowning of Virginia man in Lake Winnipesukee investigated

MOULTONBOROUGH - The New Hampshire State Police is investigating the death of an adult male in Lake Winnipesaukee.

Marine Patrol officers got involved around 8:20 p.m. on Monday when they received a report of a missing person, later identified as Forrest Wells, 76, of Virginia, who was believed to have been swimming in Lake Winnipesaukee near Long Island in Moultonborough.

Multiple agencies collaborated throughout the night and conducted an extensive search until early Tuesday when the body of a man believed to be Wells was recovered near the shoreline.

At this time, the death is not considered suspicious and is believed to be an accidental drowning, police say.
