ROCHESTER - The fire at Moe's Italian Sandwiches earlier this month appears to have started due to an electrical malfunction, Rochester Fire Chief Dennis Dube told The Rochester Voice today.
In an exclusive interview, Dube said the fire apparently sparked on the north side of the building as you enter from North Main Street.
"It took off under the floor in the left corner, them moved up the wall and across the floor joists," Dube said. "It appeared to be an electrical issue inside a metal casing that carried electric wiring."
Dube said the Oct. 4 fire traveled through the north side wall and back to the rear of the building.
In a social media post a day after the fire co-owner Angela Labrie said they would be opening their doors as soon as possible.
"We have been busy with insurance adjusters, fire investigators and Eversource," she said. "It will be quite some time before Moe's will be up and running, but we will be up and running again."
The fire broke out a little before 8 a.m. and drew a quick response from Rochester Fire, which is just a few blocks away.
No one was injured in the blaze.
