LEBANON - It looks like the sun will shine on Lebanon’s Cleanup Day effort, at least until volunteers are done helping to pick up trash along the town’s roadways and enjoy a free barbecue for their efforts.

Organizers will be on hand at the Town Offices on Upper Guinea Road to pass out bags and gloves beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Cleanup crews upon arriving should let organizers know what areas of road or roads they’ll be working on to minimize duplication of effort.

Organizers are requesting that no cleanup crews attempt to clean areas of Carl Broggi Highway (Route 202) due to the likelihood of children involved in the effort and the speed at which vehicles travel along the road.

Temperatures are expected to be mild, and forecasters are expecting no precipitation until later in the afternoon.

The cookout will begin at 12:30 p.m. back at Town Offices.

A host of businesses have helped to defray the cost of the cleanup and cookout, including Salmon Falls Café, Batchelder Sales, Papa Gino’s of Rochester, Triple J Feeds, Stokewood’s Diner, Welch’s Hardware, M&M Auto Sales and Repair, Hannaford’s of North Main Street, Rochester; and Market Basket of Rochester.

Lebanon Rescue will be providing the grill, and Gilpatrick Property Services will be providing manpower as well.

In addition Road Commissioner Larry Torno, his road crews as well as the Lebanon Transfer Station crew will all be donating their time in a truly collective town effort.

One of the organizers, Harrison Thorp of The Lebanon Voice, said he’s hoping for a big volunteer turnout.

“With all the great donations we received from businesses across Lebanon and Rochester, I’m hoping residents will match their enthusiasm and generosity and get out on a beautiful spring day and make the town proud,” he said today.

Cleanup Day is sponsored by the Town Of Lebanon and The Lebanon Voice.

If anyone has any questions please do not hesitate to call Thorp at 207-432-2218.
