STRAFFORD - Herbert Willis Clark, 90, died peacefully, with his loved ones by his side, on Jan. 19, 2025. Born on May 24, 1934, in Strafford, he was the son of Herbert K Clark and Lyndall (Perkins) Clark. He graduated with the Spaulding Class of 1952, before joining the Army as a combat veteran of both the Korean & Vietnam wars, with over 30 years of service. He served his country in Germany, France, Korea, Vietnam, Laos, Japan, and Thailand, along with assignments in the United States in Texas, California, North Carolina, Maryland, and Massachusetts.
He proudly retired in 1983, with the position of Chief Warrant Officer (CW04) and a member of the 1oth Special Forces Airborne, Green Berets. He was proud of all he has accomplished while serving his country, rightfully so, and would happily sit with most anyone and share countless fascinating stories about his numerous adventures he, his wife Mona, and their 4 children embarked over many years.
Upon his retirement in 1983, he and Mona built their dream home on family land, beautifully situated beside his childhood home and family farm in Strafford. He had a great love of reading, Harley Davidsons (he owned several), horseback riding (prior to enlisting in the Army he was an instructor at the old Allen A Resort), music of all kinds (The Platters were his all-time favorite, especially the song "Together Again"), and sports of all kinds. He loved traveling, spending countless winters exploring the United States and Canada in an RV with his wife Mona, before eventually settling on a winter home in North Port, Fla. There you would easily find him bombing around in his golf cart or motor scooter, feeding his crane friend they named "Logan" and playing table tennis. He was a force to be reckoned with when it came to table tennis, winning numerous medals. He most definitely lived life to the fullest, seeing and experiencing what very few of us could ever imagine, and thoroughly enjoying all the best things this life had to offer.
Herbert is survived by two brothers, Glenn Clark and wife Mahala of Hot Springs, AR and Leon Clark of Massachusetts, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren as well as long time beloved friends and caregivers Karen & Casey Jones, and daughter-in-law Raelene Clark (surviving wife of Richard Clark). He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years, Mona Clark, children Richard Clark, Kenneth Clark, Steven Clark, and Charlene Roseann (Clark) Rambeault, and grandchildren Danielle Rambeault, Steven Clark, and Travis Clark.
