ROCHESTER -Janice "Jan" M. Hervey, 73, of Rochester, died on Feb. 16, 2023, following an extended illness. She was a lifelong resident of Rochester and a fixture within the community.

Jan, as she was known to her friends, will be remembered for her kind spirit and independent nature. Jan was a friend to all animals, particularly any animal in need of rescue, and was devoted to her five furry companions: Riley, Gingee, Sophie, Tina and Heidi.

Prior to her retirement, Jan enjoyed a storied career within the federal government. At just 18 years old she landed a support role as the administrative assistant to the commander of Pease Air Force Base. Later, Jan transferred to the submarine maintenance, engineering, planning, and procurement division (SUBMEPP) of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard to work in the technical information center.

Jan is predeceased by her beloved parents, Richard J. Hervey and Pauline F. Hervey (Fisher), and her sister, Louise J. Wood. She is survived by her nephew, Michael Wood of Lee, and niece, Marcia Wood, Portland, Maine.
