FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Jeanne Anne Barcomb Oakes, 82, died peacefully at home Tuesday, March 7, 2017.
Daughter of the late Dr. Albert and Lucille Beaupre Barcomb, Jeanne was born and raised in Rochester. She earned a bachelor's of science in chemistry from Simmons College in 1956.
After moving to Fairfield, Conn. in 1966, and raising four children, Jeanne worked as a chemist for Polymer Industries, Stolt-Nielson Shipping Co. and Fairfield University.
Jeanne loved her friends, bridge, genealogy, travel, and summers in Maine. Her beautiful smile, warmth, and zest for life will be greatly missed.
Survivors include William Oakes, husband of 60 years; children, Jeffrey and Nancy Oakes, of Marion, Mass.; Katherine Oakes and Douglas Melville of Simsbury, Conn.; Michael and Beth Oakes, of Silver Lake, N.H.; Jennifer and William Keohane of Wallingford, Conn.; grandchildren, Christopher, Aaron, Elise, Jamie, and Colleen Oakes; Ian and Kira Melville.
