Judge dials up stiff bail for man accused of making harassing phone calls to court

ALFRED, Maine - An Acton man police say has made numerous harassing phone calls to York County Superior Court will spend much of the Christmas season in jail after his arrest last week.

Ron Colson, 57, was arrested on Wednesday on a warrant charging 11 counts of violating conditions of release for allegedly making the phone calls after he was forbidden to do so as part of his bail agreement.

"He had been calling the courthouse incessantly," York County Sheriff Bill King said in a press release sent to The Rochester Voice and other media outlets on Monday.

Colson was first arrested on Nov. 3 for six alleged counts of harassment by telephone. He was subsequently released on $500 bail with the condition that he not contact the courts in a harassing manner.

During the month of November, Colson continued to contact the courts numerous times, violating his conditions of release, police say.

Colson is being held at the York County Jail on $5,000 bail. His next court appearance isn't till Dec. 18.
