Jury will hear appeal of ex-Rochester man's conviction on 2021 prowling charges

DOVER - A former Rochester man with a long history of prowling and peeping Tom-type offenses will seek to overturn a 2021 conviction during a jury trial that begins on Friday in Strafford Superior Court.
According to Assistant County Attorney Shawn M. Lampron, the trial should last no more than two days.
Christopher C. Crosby, 52, of Mountain Road, Cape Neddick, Maine, a lifetime-registered sex offender, has seen at least 36 convictions over 25 years from lewdness to indecent exposure to felonious sexual assault.
On Friday he will be attempting to overturn his conviction on criminal trespass in the area of 77 Saratoga Circle in Durham on Oct. 29, 2021.
The Durham charge he is appealing is a misdemeanor, which is punishable by up to a year in county jail. Crosby's appeal was filed on Nov. 3.
Jury selection for Friday's trial was completed on Monday.
His most recent arrest of Crosby by Rochester Police came in June of 2017 on prowling and violations of privacy misdemeanors.
Police first became involved in the incident after a caller on Lincoln Street told dispatch a little after 11 p.m. that he and a woman had seen a suspicious man looking through several windows at a nearby residence.
When officers arrived the subject was gone, but officers soon found a man matching a description given on Knight Street where he was interviewed by police.
The couple who had called in the incident later identified Crosby, who was then taken into custody.
Crosby, formerly of 10 Myrtle St., Rochester, was charged with one count of violation of privacy and one count of prowling, Rochester Police Capt. Jason Thomas said at the time of the arrest.

Thomas said Crosby's charges had been elevated to Class A misdemeanors due to his long history of similar behavior.
According to the New Hampshire Department of Safety Registry of Criminal Offenders, Crosby's initial convictions were in 1992 for theft by unauthorized taking, receiving stolen property, and two counts of felonious sexual assault. His registration as a sex offender began in June 2012 for a conviction for violation of privacy and two counts of felonious sexual assault with a victim between 13 and 16.
His most recent conviction was for failure to report a new address with the registry.
