ROCHESTER - The mind of comedy legend Mel Brooks will be on display beginning Friday when the Rochester Opera House - just in time for Halloween - presents Young Frankenstein, a knee-slapping musical comedy based on Brooks' classic 1974 film.

The musical follows Dr. Frederick Frankenstein, grandson of the infamous Victor Frankenstein. A respected medical professor in New York, Frederick insists he's nothing like his mad-scientist grandfather. But when he inherits the family castle in Transylvania, he reluctantly travels there and soon finds himself drawn into the same bizarre experiments.

With the help of his hunchbacked sidekick, Igor, the mysterious housekeeper Frau Blücher, and the flirtatious lab assistant Inga, Frederick decides to reanimate a corpse. Against all odds, the experiment works--and the monster comes to life. Chaos, mistaken identities, and hilarious misunderstandings follow as the villagers panic, Frederick struggles to control his creation, and the monster unexpectedly charms everyone with surprising sensitivity.

The show is packed with over-the-top humor, wordplay, slapstick, and show-stopping numbers like Transylvania Mania and Puttin' on the Ritz.

This highly anticipated production comes from the same creative team that brought you this summer's The Producers, another Mel Brooks creation.

The musical is directed by Jenry Towle, choreographed by Brad Reinking, with musical direction by Sam Tolley.

Young Frankenstein opens Friday at 7:30 p.m. and runs through Nov. 1.
