ROCHESTER - Lorraine C. (Dionne) Whaley died on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Watson Fields in Dover, N.H. Lorraine was born in Rochester and attended the local public school system. She was the daughter of the late Beatrice E. (Conley) Dionne and Joseph Alfred Dionne.
She was a Navy World War II veteran having served in Naval Intelligence in Washington, who was striving to break the Japanese code. She was very proud of the "unit citation" received from the then president, FDR. She was also a member of the Nave National-WWMC, American Legion Post #8, NARF, Rochester Historical Society and a communicant of First Church Congregational, UCC.
Under the G.I. Bill she attended Wilfeds' Academy of Cosmetology and worked and lived in Boston for a few years. Returning back home, Lorraine joined the workforce of PNSY; working as a commodity manager in the supply department.
Retiring in 1987 she then volunteered at Frisbie Memorial Hospital for the next 20 plus years and retired from there in 2009. Her maternal grandfather was from a long line of Down East, Maine sea captains. He had been around the world several times and her youth was filled with wonderous tales of the sea and many pieces of memorabilia from around the world.
Kudos, love and thank you to Lori (Towne) Laframboise of Epsom, Kathy and Sam Baker of Rochester and Susie Edgerly of Rochester for being there and helping out when I needed help.
Lorraine would like to be remembered for her "love of life, country, and her eternal optimism". She would also want to be remembered for her life, not mourned for her passing.
