ROCHESTER - No joke, the last time I had shrimp scampi was around 2004 at Louie's Backyard, a tony Key West restaurant that overlooked the Atlantic Ocean near the northern end of Duval Street.
That is, until, Monday, when I ordered some off the Seniors menu at Windjammers restaurant in downtown.
Truth be told, I don't remember Louie's being any better than what I had on Monday.
The scampi came out in about 10 minutes sizzling on a hot plate filled with a scrumptious, savory wine sauce filled with mushrooms, tomatoes and a whole mess of shrimp.
The shrimp were cooked perfectly and the wine sauce was a perfect compliment to enjoy with our mashed potatoes, another one of Windjammer's favorites.
The richness of the cuisine was such that halfway through the dish, we were pleasantly full and took some home for the next day.
The service was prompt and the atmosphere pleasantly subdued as most folks were busy eating and not talking.
Total price $14.95, including beverage and dessert.
Windjammer's is located at 240 Portland Street with a phone of 603.332.9622.
