CONCORD - A former Pittsfield man now living in Florida has pleaded guilty in federal court to bank fraud, the U.S. Attorneys Office announced on Wednesday.
According to court documents and statements made in court, Benjamin Stockwell, 30, stole checks from various mailboxes throughout New Hampshire, altered them, and cashed them at various banks in his own name.
Stockwell is scheduled to be sentenced on May 20.
"Protecting the integrity of the mail is an important law enforcement priority," said U.S. Attorney Scott W. Murray. "Those who steal items from the mail to commit fraud should understand that they will be identified and prosecuted."
