MANCHESTER - A Manchester woman was found guilty on Thursday of one felony count of Theft by Deception and two felony counts of Medicaid Fraud following a five-day jury trial.
Fawn Gobis, 60, had stood accused of stealing more than $10,000 in Medicaid funds by falsely representing that her son, Cody Gobis, was providing care to a disabled Medicaid member between December 2020 and February 2022.
In reality, Cody Gobis resided in Colorado and did not provide the care. According to a statement by the Attorney Generals Office, Fawn Gobis committed the fraud by forging and submitting more than 30 false timesheets indicating that Cody Gobis was providing care. In reliance on those false documents, a Manchester Medicaid area agency submitted Medicaid claims, and funds in excess of $10,000 were issued by the area agency. She also provided further forged documentation so that the funds would be deposited into accounts that she owned.
Theft by deception is a class A felony, which is punishable by up to 15 years in the New Hampshire State Prison and a $4,000 fine. Medicaid fraud is a class B felony and is punishable by up to 7 years in the New Hampshire State Prison and a $4,000 fine. A sentencing hearing is currently scheduled for Oct 14.
Cody Gobis has already entered a guilty plea for his role in the scheme. In July 2024, he pleaded guilty to a class A misdemeanor charge of Receiving Stolen Property.
