MILTON - A Milton man trying to back out of the downtown Cumberland Farms early Sunday morning ended up taking out two gas pumps when his foot inadvertently hit the accelerator instead of the brakes.

The man was wearing oversized winter boots that he used for snowshoeing and hit the accelerator by mistake, Milton Police Chief Richard Krauss said today.

After crashing between two sets of pumps, the 29-year-old driver then tried to extricate his car from the debris, which upended one fuel pump housing comprising two fuel pumps, Krauss added.

The man’s car, a Subaru Outback station wagon, was in the front parking area facing the Cumby’s prior to the incident.

No citations were issued and no injuries reported, Krauss said.

Milton Fire and Rescue was not immediately available for comment on the extent or existence of any gasoline spillage.
