The man accused in the fatal shooting of his sister-in-law and two nephews in Northfield in 2022 pleaded guilty guilty on Thursday to three counts of second-degree murder.
Eric Sweeney entered naked plea murder charges meaning there is no negotiated sentence.
The charges allow for a maximum allowable sentence for each charge, which is life in prison with the possibility of parole.
Sweeney shot to death his sister-in-law Kassandra Sweeney, and nephews Benjamin, 4 and Mason 1 in their Northfield home in 2022.
Sweeney pleaded guilty to three counts of second-degree murder in August.
He was 16 when he shot and killed his brother's wife, Kassandra, and her sons on the morning of Aug. 3, 2022, at their home on Wethersfield Drive.
Eric Sweeney was staying at his brother's home at the time.
On July 22, 2022, records indicate Sean Sweeney told police he was worried about a person at his home who was making strange comments.
According to the report, a police officer spoke to the unnamed person, later identified as Eric Sweeney, who was calmly sitting at a table. He allegedly said that he would change his behavior.
A sentencing date has been set for Oct 3.
