ROCHESTER - Oscar Raymond Gelinas, 87, died peacefully at his home on Thursday Aug. 8, 2013. Oscar was born Feb. 20, 1926 in Rochester, the second of five sons born to Maurice and Beatrice (Larochelle) Gelinas. Oscar was a veteran of World War II and was wounded in battle. He retired from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in 1983 after 30 years, and in retirement, he worked at Rich's Department Store in Rochester where he made many lasting friendships. 

Oscar was also a communicant of St Mary's Church in Rochester and, over the years, he enjoyed singing for the Lights of Love at Frisbee Hospital. Throughout the years, Oscar also sang to the residents of the Rochester Manor. During the past twenty-five years, Oscar became an avid golfer, playing nearly every day at the Farmington course with several close friends.

Oscar was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Lorraine (Winkley) Gelinas as well as his brothers Armand Gelinas, Roland Gelinas and Maurice Gelinas, Jr. He is survived by his wife Marjorie (Reed) Gelinas, his brother Leo Gelinas and wife Alie, his sisters and brothers-in-law Jim and Barbara (Winkley) Scott and Arthur and Marjorie (Winkley) Nesbitt. He is also survived by his three sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Linda Gelinas of Rochester, Tom and Donna Gelinas of Winter Park, Fla., Dan and Pam Gelinas of Rochester, and by his six grandchildren, Scott Gelinas and his wife Laura of Mooresville, N.C., Matthew Gelinas and Melanie Morgan, Eric Gelinas and his wife Jennifer, Andrew Gelinas and his wife Caitlin, Bryan Gelinas and Shannon Doyle and by Kasey Gelinas and PJ Hunter. Oscar is also survived by his great-grandchildren Ryder and Brynley Gelinas, Jackson Gelinas, Lily Gelinas, Ben Gelinas and Saige and Kellen Nason, as well as his stepdaughter Tracey Duboise of Rochester and stepgrandsons Austin Tremblay and Ethan Duboise of Rochester along with several nieces and nephews. 

Visiting hours for family and friends will be Sunday afternoon Aug. 11 from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. at the Edgerly Funeral Home on South Main St in Rochester. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, Aug. 12 at 10 a.m. at St Mary's Catholic Church on Lowell St in Rochester followed by burial at Kimball Cemetery, Meaderboro Road in Rochester.
