Overnight rain saw no road closures but there were some flooding issues downtown

Flood and wind watches are in effect today as a storm bringing torrential rains continues to pummel the area close on the heels of last weekend's nor'easter that dumped more than a foot of snow on the Northern Seacoast.

The area flood watch will remain in place till 4 p.m. today while a wind watch stays in place till 1 p.m.

The flooding concerns are due to as much as two inches of rain that began overnight following the weekend snowstorm and subsequent snow melt with the rising temperatures expected to climb into the 50s later today.

The watches include both Strafford County in New Hampshire and interior York County in Maine including Sanford and Lebanon.

Flooding is likely to occur in poor drainage and urban areas where storm drains and ditches may become clogged with snow and other debris, according to Strafford alerts. Forecasters also expect rapid rises along small streams due to heavy snow melt of the recent snowpack. Runoff will be rapid due to the frozen ground conditions, supporting the potential for flash flooding, the weather watches predict.

The conditions may lead to numerous road closures in the Greater Rochester area.

Rochester Police said this afternoon that roadways in the Lilac City saw little disruption from the overnight storm, but that some localized flooding occurred near the Linscott Apartments and Profile Bank in the area of Columbus Avenue and Summer and Wakefield streets.
