PELHAM - The Pelham man shot by police on Friday fired multiple rounds at officers before being fired on in return, according to a release from the Attorney General's Office on Saturday.
The confrontation occurred as members of the Pelham Police Department responded to a 911 call for a person in distress late Friday night. When they arrived at the Nashua Street residence they found a male identified as Sheldon Brockelbank, 33, who after a brief encounter with police fired a handgun multiple times, before officers returned fire.
According to police, two officers used deadly force, and one officer used less-than-lethal force.
Brockelbank was injured and taken to a hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.
He is charged with reckless conduct in connection with his firing a firearm and will be arraigned at a later date.
The investigation by the New Hampshire Department of Justice into the shooting of Brockelbank is ongoing. Pursuant to protocol, the identity of the officers who used deadly force will not be disclosed until a formal interview takes place sometime this week.
